Equipping children through validation

In his article “What invalidation and Why Do I Need to Know?” Karyn Hall (2012) writes that validation is “the recognition and acceptance of another person’s internal experience as being valid.” Self-validation is the recognition and acknowledgment four own internal experience (Hall, 2012). This enhances the sense of belonging because validation communicates acceptance and acknowledges the value of yourself and other human beings.

However, lack of understanding the importance of validation has led to rejection, ignoring and judging children. If children feel that they are not understood, they cannot be open to be guided or to ask for help. Caution should be taken not to mistake validation with agreeing with them.

CALISCO aims to equip parents and caregivers to improve their relationship with children through utilizing validation. Giving the children the opportunity for self-validation makes parenting much easier. The parents or caregivers will have the background check of the current situation of their child which will facilitate addressing any negative experiences that may hold back the child in their development.Jennifer Walinga noted that “development refers to the physiological, behavioral, cognitive, and social changes that occur throughout human life, which are guided by both genetic predispositions (nature) and by environmental influences (nurture).” What environment have we created for our children to grow and develop in? Let us remember what the Scripture teaches”fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.” As a father, help your child to express their self-validation.
