Tradition has it that children go to seek blessings from their parents. Some cultures still hold on to the tradition that a newborn must be blessed by the grandparents. In the process of seeking blessings, a relationship is created that comes with the obligation. A couple knows that if they do not have a good relationship with their parents, their children will not receive blessings in the future. Scripture teaches about passing blessings or curses to families: “I will bless those who bless you, and the one who curses you I will curse; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed” (Genesis 12:3). The question is, what have you passed on to your children as a parent?
Today’s society has lost the connection with traditions, such that there are no custodians responsible for passing blessings. Why was Abraham promised to be a source of blessings or curses to the families of the world? Was this a mistake? The promise of Abraham initiated an obligation for collective responsibility. It would not have been proper for Abraham to expect to lose any of his lineages. The most desirable thing for him would have been to take pride in the success of his lineage. How deeply are you connected with your lineage? What are you practicing today that has been handed over by your lineage?
We may have lost the treasure of our traditions, but it is never too late to revive them. Even companies are investing in corporate culture. CALISCO is taking the responsibility of re-introducing the lost treasure of traditional blessings through families. This will allow the connection of families beyond their nuclear bond. At the same time, it will facilitate the sharing of traditional beliefs, values, and norms. This will lay the foundation for social interactions and contribute to the shaping of human behaviour. A shift in attitude towards life will occur from subjective to objective responsibility. Hence, inspire every family member to desire to be a blessing first and foremost within the family.
