Human beings have a hierarchy of needs. According toMaslow, self-actualization is the highest human need that must be satisfied if we are to realize our full potential and become the best version of ourselves. Our interest is to answer the question: how can anyone achieve self-actualization? Self-actualization is a process. Consider the case ofJohn the Baptist, who identified Christ by saying, “Look, here is the Lamb of God!” (John 1:36). Immediately, his followers wanted to be with Christ. They asked: “Rabbi (teacher), where do you stay?” Christ responded, “Come and see.”(cf. John 1:35-39). By choosing to stay with Jesus, the followers had the opportunity of self-actualization to become disciples.
Today, our children have desires for self-actualization that require a well-defined process. This is possible when children are allowed to stay and observe what contributes to their growth and development. The challenge we face is the absence of responsible and trustworthy people. Naturally, children are inclined to follow those who understand and appreciate them. It is from this that they can be assisted in owning what they have learnt.
CALISCO is providing responsible and trustworthy mentors and coaches who can guide your children in the process of self-actualization. The joy of CALISCO is to see more children growing as responsible and trustworthy members of the community. Keeping the standard high of valuing caring, listening to every child when they ask a question, and taking them through a learning process is an empowering exercise.
