In this life, there is so much that people struggle to achieve that ends in vain. Yet there are moments we are successful without paying attention and fail to show our gratitude. There is a need to draw inspiration from small, successful occasions. This will not only benefit us but will contribute to raising awareness of gratitude among those we live with. There is a lesson for our family from the Scripture as shared through the experience of Hannah. She went to the temple to fulfill her promise to God and said, “Pardon me, my lord. As surely as you live, I am the woman who stood here beside you praying to the Lord. I prayed for this child, and the Lord has granted me what I asked of him. So now I give him to the Lord. For his whole life, he will be given over to the Lord” (1 Samuel 1:26-28). How did these words sound in the ears of those who heard her? Were they not moved by her joy of having her child, who was being dedicated for the service of the temple?
When we fail to express our gratitude, we fail to communicate God’s faithfulness in us. Our children need to be made aware that we constantly invoke God’s name. If they grow witnessing our dependence on God, they will develop the habit of being grateful.
