There is a great lesson from the relationship between Jesus and Simon Peter. “After leaving the synagogue, he entered Simon’s house. Now, Simon’s mother-in-law was suffering from a high fever, and they asked him about her. Then he stood over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her. Immediately she got up and began to serve them” (Luke 4:38-39). This shows Jesus’ concern about Simon’s family. Christ knew that Simon would not carry this work well if his mother-in-law were unwell. This is a challenge to us and our friends, whether we are concerned with the well-being of our family members. We often see relationships that undermine our family ties. Why would this be the case? Which kind of institution can substitute for our families? What is unique about our families? The truth is, we never chose our family members; they were given to us by God, and this is the reason why each has a specific role.
Imagine a home without a mother? Mothers are there to make everyone feel at home. See what happened immediately after Simon’s mother-in-law was made well; she got up and served them. Now, think of a situation where family members neglect their responsibilities. How much pain is endured in trying to fill the gap of irresponsible family members?
CALISCO aims to leverage the available social capital by encouraging each family member to take up their responsibility seriously.
